While the summer seems to always fly by, our students and staff don't seem to mind coming back to school one week earlier than most others. In fact, we're excited to get started ahead of the usual schedule. I guess that's what you can expect when school doesn't feel like "school". Our returning students know what I'm talking about- hands-on projects that matter to them, lots of time learning outdoors and on field-trips, and as one student put it so eloquently during our opening assembly, "it feels like home." There is no doubt that we all feel fortunate to be a part of this special place we call High Park Day School.
We will ease into our first week to lay the foundation for a great year, focusing on building our school community, establishing essential agreements, and of course, reconnecting with friends. When we return after the Labour Day holiday, we will dig into our first Project-Based Learning Unit, "Planet Earth", and find ways to reduce our negative impact on the environment. Check in regularly to see what's happening at HPDS and to get a glimpse of our Project-Based Learning in action!
